Motorcycle Licence Categories in Ireland
There are four motorcycle licence types in Ireland. You can access them by direct access (if you’ve never held a licence before) or progressive access (upgrading from A1 or A2 after experience/training).
For mopeds and scooters up to 50cc (max 4kW electric). Speed: 25–45 km/h.
Light motorcycles 115cc–125cc, max 11 kW. Must reach at least 90 km/h.
Motorcycles between 20–35 kW, with power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 0.1 kW/kg.
Motorcycles 595cc+, at least 50 kW power, min 175 kg unladen mass.
